Description of Position:

The Controller utilizes all financial processes to ensure timely and relevant monitoring and reporting of the company’s overall financial performance. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will oversee the full accounting process, with an emphasis on budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and business performance analysis and reporting. A passion for accurate and timely cost reporting is critical to the success of the company’s ongoing projects. As a key part of the Finance team, the Controller will lead and manage the accounting staff to ensure timely and accurate information is available to stakeholders to facilitate the decision-making process. The Controller should exhibit an entrepreneurial attitude combined with superior accounting and reporting skills and a thorough understanding of tax and business processes in the construction and real estate development industry. The position is based in Kelowna, B.C.

Key Responsibilities:

1. REPORTING AND ANALYSIS

a. Direct and coordinate company financial planning and budget management functions, including cash-flow planning and annual and long-term projections.

b. Work with Department heads and Project Managers to establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, budgets, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.

c. Provide consistent and accurate monthly financial reporting with analysis of operating results in terms of profitability, budget performance, cash flow, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.

2. ACCOUNTING MANAGEMENT

a. Provide leadership to the Accounting Department to maximize productivity and effectiveness through education, training, and recruitment.

b. Manage the Accounting Department to implement financial audit and control systems monitoring the performance of the company, cash flow, budget, and expenditures, including capital expenditures.

c. Direct financial annual audit with the external auditors to complete corporate tax returns and annual Financial Statements as required by investors and institutional lenders.

d. Ensure compliance with GAAP and reporting requirements for lenders and investors.

e. To execute all other tasks conducive to the financial health of the company.

3. PROJECT MANAGEMENT

a. Review and assess corporate and project/construction insurance requirements.

b. Review and manage corporate banking requirements.

c. Manage project financing and reporting, including progress claims with the QS, in collaboration with the Development team.

d. For 2024: Assess and determine the Accounting Software platform best suited for the present and future needs of the company.

All other duties as directed by the CFO or Senior Leadership Team

Key Competencies:

a. Have 3-5 years in a senior-level finance or accounting position in the Real Estate Development and/or Construction industry.

b. Extensive experience in preparing financial statements and reports as well as the day-to-day work of accounting.

c. Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and make data driven decisions.

d. Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.

e. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, influence and inspire team members to achieve excellence.

f. An entrepreneurial attitude combined with solid organizational and business skills.

g. Excellent computer skills (Sage 100, MS Office, Co-Construct, Yardi)

Qualifications:

a. Post-secondary degree/diploma in accounting or related program.

b. CPA, CGA, CMA, or CA designation.

Rate of Pay:

a. Salary $100,000 - $140,000 per annum (actual salary offered will commensurate with education experience)
